Warner Brothers now has theatrical and video rights to the Hobbit movie in exchange for giving MGM the loan money it needs to start filming.
MGM will keep international television licensing to the films while the two companies will collaborate on marketing and release plans.
Both films are set to start being filmed in Digital 3D in February. Release is still scheduled to begin December 2012.
Peter Jackson has finally announced his choice of Martin Freeman to play the lead role of Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit movies.
PJ was quoted as saying: “There are few times in your career when you come across an actor who you know was born to play a role, but that was the case as soon as I met Martin. He is intelligent, funny, surprising and brave – exactly like Bilbo and I feel incredibly proud to be able to announce that he is our Hobbit.”
We can add Martin to a growing list of confirmed Hobbit actors that will be updated as filming draws nearer.
After almost 2 years of working on the ‘Hobbit’ movies, Guillermo del Toro has revealed that he will not be directing. A report from ‘theonering.net’ quotes del Toro as saying, “After nearly two years of living, breathing and designing a world as rich as Tolkien’s Middle Earth, I must, with great regret, take leave from helming these wonderful pictures.” For more on this story visit their site:
