Chapter 3 - A Short Rest

"A Short Rest" covers the dwarves' stay at Rivendell with the elves. During their stay special runes that can only be seen during certain phases of the moon appear on Thorin's map.

After leaving the stone-frozen trolls far behind, the group sets out towards Rivendell. Gandalf explains that he has scouted out the area already and they head in that direction immediately. As soon as they are close to Rivendell, elves appear and invite them in to stay and eat.
While they are there they meet Master Elrond. It is he who discovers moon runes on Thorin's map. He explains that these magical runes can only be seen when the moon is just right. These runes explain how to find the magical entrance to the red mountain.
After getting plenty of rest and re-supplying, the dwarves head out again on their adventure.
