Hobbit Cast - Gandalf - Ian McKellen (confirmed)

Gandalf is a mysterious wizard that we meet at the beginning of "The Hobbit." He is the one who originally convinces Bilbo to accompany the dwarves on their adventure. After the dwarves set off, Gandalf disappears and then reappears whenever the dwarves seem to need him most. His magical powers and extensive knowledge of middle earth come in handy throughout the book.

In the original LOTR movies Ian McKellen played Gandalf. He has stated that he wants to return for "The Hobbit," and there is currently no reason why he would be turned down.
